Our Evensong at Chester Cathedral and Eucharist and Evensong at St Asaph Cathedral were very well received by the Deans of the respective cathedrals. Elgar's "Give unto the Lord" had a rare outing at Chester while the Eucharist at St Asaph was complemented by Schubert's Mass in G and the Evensong was sung to Gibbons' second service. Altogether, a most rewarding weekend for all involved.
Our season of Wednesday concerts starts on 9th May with a concert at Crowton near Northwich. This year's repertoire has a strongly royal theme as appropriate for Her Majesty's Diamond Jubilee year. In consequence, we expect to include items such as Parry's "I was glad", Handel's "Zadok the priest" and Rutter's "Choral fanfare". Do come to hear us!
This year, in addition to the well established Wednesday concerts, which take the Singers to churches around Cheshire and North Wales (and occasionally a little further), plans are currently being made for the Singers to perform in Chester Cathedral in February, in a concert jointly with three local schools at All Saints, Hoole on April 21, and at an event in St John’s Chester in early June.
This is going to be a busy year. The combination of the Queen’s Jubilee, several invitations to perform at prestigious events and our own programme of concerts gives us some interesting challenges. We look forward to bringing our music to a wide range of audiences this year.
